Nice to see you here!

My name is Eri Yashiro Heurlin. I am originally from Japan and currently living in Brunswick, Maine with my husband, two active sons and a lovely shih-tzu. My passion in life is delightful design, figure skating and piano.

I'm a curious person.
I have a master's degree in International Studies/Korean Studies from University of Washington, and bachelor's degree in English/ Education from Tsuda College in Tokyo, Japan. After graduation, I have completed a certificate program in project management at University of Washington. In addition, I have completed a certificate program in graphic design and front end web design. The landing page I created in my last project has been awarded the best out of over 80 landing pages. Most recently, I have obtained a certificate in user experience and interface design from Interaction Design Foundation. I have been awarded the best presentation of our final project, which is to rennovate the existing website with many user experience problems.

I believe our digital experiences should be joyful and easy. I aim to produce intuitive, immersive designs by integrating innovation and elegance into user friendly design patterns. I want to push the boundaries of web design while delighting users and serving company needs. I have a passion for UI design, especially in colors and fonts.

I'm passionate about products and organizations that make a positive impact on people’s lives. That was my initial motivation to start learning design. Living far away from my home country, Japan and my family for a long time, I always wanted to contribute something but did not know how. There are many amazing products or services that have positive impacts on people’s lives, but due to the lack of good design and/or proper advertisement, many are not known as much as they deserve to be. I thought there should be something I can do and I just jumped in. Since 2020, I have worked with Japanese clients as a freelance web and graphic designer. I have created landing pages, web banners and print design from the ideation to the launch. I am currently looking for opportunities to grow as a UI/UX designer.

My toolset includes Figma, Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator. Figma is my default everyday design tool. I use Atom for the editor. I used Figma to design my portfolio and Atom to write the code.

When I'm not designing, you can find me figure skating. I started to learn how to skate as an adult when I was in my 30s. Now I'm skating on a synchronized figure skating team. I love skating outdoors in the winter, too! I enjoy playing piano, especially classical music in the romance period, playing basketball, watching a Dodgers baseball game, listening to music, making custom print T shirts or snuggling with my sweet fluffy dog. I love colors and typography. When I see the perfect harmony, that makes me smile!
